This year started off by reaching a fantastic milestone as I passed 500,000 subscribers on my Ancient Architects YouTube channel, something I never dreamed would be possible when I started back in September 2017.
I can't quite believe that half a million people have chosen to subscribe - and with their own free will - I still feel like an amateur; I still have that 'imposter syndrome' feeling, because I really am just a guy sat at home, researching the subjects I love, working out how to put a video together with a cheap microphone, laptop and free software.
I don't have a team behind me, nothing is outsourced and even though the videos do look and feel a little amateur, hopefully you can tell I do put a great deal of work into it - researching, writing, narrating, editing, graphic design, marketing and the list goes on. It really is a full time job.
Ancient Architects started out as a way to try and make a name for myself as I had a fantastic idea for a book but no audience, and no way I could ever get a publisher. So this channel was a small side project at the beginning, something I did in my spare time, but it's something that has evolved, and continues to evolve every day.
After passing the milestone in January 2023, I decided it was about time I had a website and so I bought ancientarchitects.com because if I'm honest, I really shouldn't risk somebody else registering the domain and using the brand I've worked so hard to build for their own gain. Plus, it's 2023 and I guess it was about time there was a website to underpin the YouTube channel.
The website is (and probably always will be) a work in progress. Just like when I started YouTube, I have no idea how to build a website and I am learning every day. Therefore some things may not be working quite right, some things may look wrong but I'll keep refining it week by week and ensure there is a reason for you to keep on coming back.
So, to finish this first blog post of the new website, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has subscribed, who has watched my videos, who has become a member on YouTube and supported me on Patreon. I couldn't have done this without you all so thank you and I promise to keep working as hard as ever to deliver what I believe is good quality content.
Matt
